Soroptimist International of Port Townsend & East Jefferson County's Ninth Annual "Scramble for Service" raised just over $10,000 for local charities. The Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Program of Jefferson County has already been awarded $5,000. The balance will be given where needed, throughout the rest of the year.

The golf tournament drew 76 enthusiastic golfers to the Port Ludlow Golf Course. Some came from as far as Portland and Seattle to enjoy the scenic Tide and Trail courses, as well as the putting and water challenges. (The putting contest was won by Mike Saelee; the water contest by David Nelson.)

Charity fundraisers, such as this, are only as successful as the generosity of its sponsors, such as tournament sponsors Frontier Bank, Kitsap Bank and Mobilisa. Also donating: Frederickson Electric, George Wiegand Insurance, Gooding & O'Hara, Hadlock Dental, Hammer & Sons, Henery Hardware, Henery Nursery, Cobalt Mortgage (previously HomeStone Mortgage), Inn at Port Hadlock, Inside Jefferson County Real Estate, Les Schwab Tires, Kristin Manwaring Insurance, Milt Morris Installations, Olympic Office Supply, Personalize It, Port Townsend Paper, Port Townsend Publishing, The Green Eye Shade, The Perry Group, Victorian Clipper and Windermere PT.

In the "A" flight, the Chimacum High School team of Jesse Best, Cody Huntingford, Adam Barrows and Mitch Black took first place with a score of 58. The Rotary Club of East Jefferson County sponsored these young men and their coach. In a very close second place, with a score of 59, was the Port Townsend High team: Ben Krabill, Zach Yakush, Mike Lux and Gabriel Tonan were sponsored by Fred Hill Materials. Coming in third, with 62, were Chelsea Saelee (age 16), Mike Saelee and Dan Holtz. In fourth place, with 65, were Pete Sagisi, Dale Kistler, Harold Spivig and N. Tona Lowha. This is the ninth year this team has participated in this Soroptimist fundraiser!

In the "B" flight, the top three teams all scored 69! Following proper golf protocol to declare a winner, the team of Chuck, Brad, Kevin and Jay Madison took first place. (Chuck came within six inches of a hole-in-one.) In second place were Kevin Scattum, Robert Sherwood, Tyler Britt and David Scattum. Third place went to Jim Grabicki, Howard Learned, Joe Finnie and Forrest Aldrich. In fourth place were Mike Henery, Michelle Henery, Kevin James and Steve Sutorius.
